DGP's Anime Review: RomeoxJuliet

RomeoxJuliet
Base on the work of: William Shakespeare
Warning: This Review contains..Spoliers..For..the..ending..Oh what The hell?! Who doesn't know the ending?
Basic summary:
Two star crossed lovers... Two Families locked in war..a tale of love..of love and a tragic ending. If this is starting to sound familiar it should as it is the story of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in a nutshell. This play is one of William most popular stories and has been made into movies, become references for tv shows and novels. It seemed that it would only take time before this story of ill-fated love reached the anime world; and it had.
RomeoxJuliet is a Anime series LOOSELY Based on that play. (A Manga is also out, and the anime is brought to us by Gonzu and dubbed by Funimation).
In this version of the story, on a dark and stormy night, fourteen years before the story starts, Montague led a mutiny aganist the ruler family of Neo Verona; the Capulets. He then killed all the members of the house but one member got away. Juliet, the daugther of the head of the Capulets. Ever since then Montague has ruled the, sky flying, land of Neo Verona with
an iron-fist as Juliet(Now all grow-up and forced to dress as a man) helps the common folk dressed as the red whirlwind; and Romeo Montague protects his father's cruelty. Juliet and Romeo meet by coincidence at the rose ball and fell in love at first sight. However when Juliet turns sixteen and learns the truth of her past that has been hidden from her, her love becomes conflicted between revolution and her fate.

My Review:
Well, Can I say that..I NEVER liked the Romeo and Juliet play? EVER? Not in it's orinigal form or in the movie. I hated it. Mostly because of my deep bias against Romance stories. But I decided to push that bias aside and give the Anime version of Romeo and Juliet a try, since ever since I had seen the opening I couldn't stop thinking about it.
I GLAD I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A CHANCE. I LOVED IT. I loved the whole knew idea behind the story, well the romance was still there but this time around I found I was actually coming around to the couple. Also I liked the fact that alot of things I hated about the play was changed in the Anime. First off was the charcter of Juliet. SHE ACTUALLY kicks ass in the anime. I hated her in the play mostly because all she seemed to be was a pretty face..But the Anime actually did something with her. They made her into a action girl who could fight for herself and not have to apen on Romeo to save her all the time. HELL she acted as the town hero, always fighting off Soliders and helping the needy. She was created to more caring and loving to the town people and her friends. She Cares about her friends and the town, then just Romeo. Which I in fact loved. For all these characteristics that changed I grew more in love with Juliet's character and found my much more interested in her story(then the orinigal). I also found Romeo's character better as well(Also cuter XD). The growth he goes in character is amazing. Specially when he is sended to the mines. Holy, I was amazed by him. Even through he was royality he worked hard, and ended up saving all the men there..by making HIS OWN VILLAGE!! Also the relationship between the two of them was done so well..well they did keep the whole Love at first site thing(I dislike the very notion..) but actually showed their love growing! YAYZ! Also the side characters were also very cool to watch, my favs included Willy(MADE OF EPIC WIN) and Tybalt.
Also this Anime did well in making me cry at the ending(even through I knew by the start that Romeo and Juliet would die..I stilled cried. Hell, this anime was so good that it was able to make me cry for the BAD GUY. Really! Also it contain the most heart braking moment in history.. Poor Romeo.. (Ep.14). So ya, I say check this out, It isn't perfect (and some scenes had me O.o at it) but it's really good. I really enjoyed it. (Note: IT HAD A YAOI SCENE..God bless Curio and Francisco XD)

DGP'S Anime Review: Yami no Matsuei

Also known as: Descendants of darkness
Created by: Yoko Matsushita
Basic Summary:

Asato Tsuzuki is a shinigami with 70 years' worth of experience. He has the power to call upon twelve mythical creatures that aid him in battle. He works with other shinigami in order to help unrested souls; and all shinigami must have a partner. Sadly Tsuzuki does not have one but that is all about to change when he mets his new partner Hisoka; and later on in the story mets his antagonist Muraki. (Who has a odd obsessing with Tsuzuki's body XD) So the story follows Tsuzuki on his many cases and his developing relationships with his new partner and enemy.

My Review:
Ummmm Huh? XD You know this going to be a good ride when you left wondering what the hell just happened.. And at last this is what happened to me when I sat back to watch this anime. Well, perhaps I was raising it up to much, I had heard of this anime and because of the many yaoi vids it's meantioned in, was thinking how great a yaoi series this much be.. Well it does have many of yaoi "scenes" per say but not really yaoi. That was no big deal, I Love animes without yaoi so I sat and watched.
....I didn't like it all that much. The animation was great, the characters well done(May I meantion how insane Muraki is..But why do I love him so?!) but the plot seemed fast. Ya, I know this anime was only thirteen episodes long but I have watch anime this long before and never felt rushed. Alot of the time I was left in confusing about what was going in the episode until it was all explained at the end. Also through out the episode I was left bored and waiting for the yaoi to happen XD So Ya i Didn't like it. The plot of death gods protecting lost souls, rape scenes(Yes RAPE scenes), and a "everybody wants him uke" (Cough Tsuzuki cough) didn't work out well. I really think it would have worked better with more episodes to grow it out. Like one think it was really quick (Like what one episode?) that we learn Hisoka's past? I mean really. The could have waited till we got to know the character before stuffing his past down your mouths. (sigh) They were many things I didn't like, for one some characters were given only small parts and we never really got to know them..and it was really hard remembering names.. Way to many long names XD All in all I would have liked more glasses-guy scenes.. WHAT IS HIS NAME? XD
I being really hard on this anime aren't I XD? But I tell you two things I like about Muraki (He was creepy but oh so cool..XD) and Tsuzuki. I loved the relation between these two and also I was left wondering what the hell Muraki was.. He most likey not human XD
So all in all I didn't like this anime very much D: I did like Muraki and the yaoi Scenes but that's about it. But I say that maybe someone out there can get something out of it. I heard there was going to be a second season.. Maybe I'll check it out.

DGP'S Anime Review: Chibi Vampire

Chibi Vampire(Also known as Karin)
Created by: Yuna Kagesaki
(This review may contain spoliers and also contains Twilight bashing)
Basic Summary:
The series evolves around the main character Karin, a abnormal Vampire. Who in stead of drinking blood injects the blood in the person. Besides from that, she also can go out in the sun, eat human food and basely live a normal teen aged girl's life..Well that was the life she was living until a transfer student named Kenta Usui came to her school. Everytime he came around her, Karin's blood would increase (this causing nosebleeds). Karin finds out that the reason for this is beacuse her blood type is 'unhappiness', and Kenta is very unhappy. She then makes her plan to make Kenta happy in order to stop her blood increasing and return to a normal life. Things happen and that normal life goes threw the window when Kenta learns she is a vampire, a vampire hunter comes to there school and her sleeping grandma wakes up. The Anime follows Karin's school life and her growing relationship with Kenta.
My Review:
I don't like romantic animes all that much..but i do enjoy romatic comdemys (Odd) XD. I decided to watch Karin after a friend told me about it, now I was really worryed about this..My friend is a lover of the twilight series(a series that I all want to do is burn..), and she said that Karin is the anime version of that trash..I mean book. Well it can be say there are simitaries between the two, I'm very glad to say that Karin is nothing like Twilight. Thank God.
Karin was funny when it needed to be, and emotional at other times..which mixed very well. I really liked the characters. All of them had there own traits that made them all that likeable. In fact I found that I liked all the characters and couldn't find one I hated or disliked. The only one that came close to me disliking was Karin herself. As I usually hate hate anime girls who are always going on and on about wanting a normal life. Karin loves her family and friends and at the last episode was ready to give up her normal life for her family. Out of all Characters my favorite has to be Winner XD He was funny!! xD and Hot (MORE XD) I liked Winner for his goodness(It's a word XD), even when he was being a nerd or a jerk he cared about others and tried to protect the innocents from Vampires. He also choose to do the right thing later on when his uncle told him to shot Karin for being a vampire..he could not because he loved her.
Which brings up something, I noticed that as the series when that Karin was getting more and more depressing. Wasn't this suppose to be a comdey? Not that I'm saying thing against making more depressed scenes it just some times these depressed scenes seemed really out of place.
I did enjoy the anime but at certain points I could be heard saying, "WTF?!" Over and over. THE LAST EPISODE. It was going so well..Sad but well. I was crying over the (seenly) deaths of Karin's family..mostly Ren XD When suddenly the bad guy cuts open Karin's shirt. ...And The bad guy falls over in faint and the others live. WTF? The Bad guy, who badly hurt four other vampires was taking out by BOOBS?! That even weirdly then zombie boy having a kid(Talking about you Edward Cullen.)
All in all I liked it. Not one of my favorites and not something I watch again mostly because I found it very chessy, the realtionship too fast, and Winner should have got more scenes.
Well that's my opinion and BTW..The episode about Ren in a all boy's school? FAVORITE EPISODE. SO MUCH YAOI GOODNESS

DGP'S Anime Review : Nabari no Ou

Nabari no Ou
Created by Yuhki Kamatani

Basic Summary(Warning this review contains spoliers)
The story takes place in the modern age, the story is about Miharu Rokujou, who just wanted to live a normal life and inherit his families' restaurant. He was was always bottered by his follow classmate, Kouichi Aizawa and his teacher Thobari Kumohira to join the Ninja Club. Miharu always turned them down, that is until he was attacked by a group of Ninjas after the Shinra Banshou inside of him. With that Miharu normal life ends, and he finds himself slipped into the World of the ninjas.
My Review
Ah, I have to admit that what first drawed me to this series was the fact it was about ninjas..XD I was really thinking that it would be another Naruto, for me to enjoy how wrong I was XD Well Nabari no Ou does have some things similar with Naruto it's it own series.
In the first episode I was introduced to Miharu, the main character. I didn't like him very much at first. He's indifferent really hit a bad note in me. I was shouting at the computer for him to care..that when I learn how much he truly cared. Miharu acted the way he did because he was afaird to hurt people, and that someone would hurt him. He was afaird and very lonely but only cared about others; people he believe didn't need to get hurt for him. So ya I started to like Miharu more which helped me in return to like the series more.
I admit that through the first few episodes that I wasn't enjoying this series at all, like I meation before it felt like a Naruto copy..just with a more emo Naruto XD Also the plot seemed forced, and not all that interesting. Get all the scrolls before the bad guys..seems like every other ninja show in history. Naruto(My fav anime series ever), had something different but what did Nabari no Ou have? I soon found out with the introducing of now one of my favorite anime guys, Yoite.
Yoite was a user of Kira, a deadly jutsu that used his own life source. Why would someone use such a jutsu? Not only that but he wanted to erase his own existence! It is when he makes a deal with Miharu that my interest in this show was born. I had found it's heart. The growth of Miharu's and Yoite's relationship was beautiful. The two were the same but different. Yoite become the most imporant person to Miharu, and the other way around as well. Miharu chose for himself to help Yoite and even joined the bad guys to help him! Later Miharu starts wondering if he can really make Yoite's wish come true because he now doesn't want Yoite to dissaper. This relationships and well as the others in this Anime, will amazing. I love watching relationships develop or ones that existed (like Raimei and her brothers.) It was in the last few episodes when the power inside Miharu came about to show what it could do and I was shocked by Miharu strong will. Also it must be said that in the last episode where Yoite died? I CRY MY LUNGS OUT. Poor Yoite, bad past and a sad ending.
I come to this conclusion that through it took awhile I started to like this Anime. The relationships, the greed of humans for power and the angst(xD), all were well done. It isn't one of my fav animes but still remains as one I like.

DGP's Anime Review: Death Note

Death Note
Created by Tsugumi Ohba and Illustrated by Takeshi Obata

Summary

What if you could kill someone by just writing a name in a notebook? Light Yagami
is a teenage genius; living a pretty much average life. One thing through he's bored. With the way the world is and his life; He hates the way the way the World and wishes to change it. His boredom ends one day when a black notebook falls from the sky; a notebook called 'Death Note.' Upon taking the notebook home, Light is quick to write it off as a joke. Really a notebook that kills with just writting a person's name and knowing their face? But it's true, for that is what the Notebook is a weapon of certain death, dropped by the bored shinigami Ryuk. Light quickly finds that the notebook is real, and at first is shocked and full of horror at the fact he took lifes...Ryuk cames to visit the notebook's owner to find that Light has filled FIVE WHOLE PAGES! It is then that Light annoces his plan, to rid the world of evil people and becoming God of this new World. Of course, people dying all of a sudden from heart attacks(If you write a person name but give no details, the person will just die of heart attack); gets attention and Light becomes known as Kira. After Kira is the genius L. Death Note then follows the cat and mouse game between the two; and see who will come up on top.

Onto the Review:

Death Note is a anime/manga that has taken the world by storm. And who can blame the World? A dark plot, and questions about what truly is justice and a main character that isn't all that normal good guy. I can say with full truth that I am a part of the large percent that has fallen in love with the cat/mouse game that is Death Note.
One of the reasons I enjoyed it so much is I love when a anime/manga makes you question things. Like, Was or was not Light doing the right thing? Is killing Bad people a good thing for the World? Even through these questions are flying in your mind the anime/manga never push any view on you. It is your decision to be on Kira's or L's side. I really liked that. Also I have to say that the characters of Light and l were amazing, and really they cat/mouse relationship is perhaps the main point of the series(I think I'm right by saying this seeing many people have told me that they stop watching the anime after L's death). As we watch the story, we get to watch Light's decend into madness..the notebook starts to take over him and ruin his life. He starts with good intenions but starts taking lifes of innocenes because their getting in his way or it's just a part of the plan. I love angst, and dark storys so watching Light slowly turn into a monster, and it done well, was amazing to watch(God I sound Evil XD). But to be also honest Light..I hated HIM. Everything about him wanted me to jump through the tv and punch his pretty little face in. If death note only had him as a main character I would have NEVER watched it. Then there is L. L PWNS ALL. Yes, he isn't pretty like Light but who gives a lovely cookie? But anyway, L character was amazing. His odd ways, the fact he was the top three genius detectives, and his sense of justice. I watched the whole L/Light relationship and willed for L to win. Sadly (Do Not read from here if you have not watched this anime!) L dies. I was shocked and deeply sad. L was such a large character, he and Light made Death Note! But(even through I wish not) I watched the next arc per say.. I'M GLAD I DID. Death Note perhaps has one of the best endings EVER. Light lost but so did L(crys), Light fell to a heart attack like the many he had set on others..and the world came going. It is this sad reality that we all must face.
For animation, I say it was very well done. The parts with blue used for L and red Light were a very good idea to keep watchers, watching. For a mostly talking anime..you fear what the animations will do from keeping the watchers..They did a great job of doing so. The animation wasn't perfect..Look at all Light's silly faces XD But hey still pretty good.
So all in all. Death Note is HOT. And I have to say that I feeling the burn(XD). Death Note is now one of my fav series but I do have my hates. Like for example I hate the part women play in this. Yes, I am a anime fan so I should be used to the part 'love interest and that's it.' But this anime/manga took that and made it worst. All the women were used by Light(I give note that he used guys to but mostly women). Light used his looks to get them to work for him and said to them he would make them goddness of the new world. Couldn't they see HE WAS LYING? I highly believe that Light was either asexual or gay in denial.
Really the character of Misa could have gone alot better!!! A female Kira, really sounded badass..untill she opens her mouth. You think English dub senna was annoying? Listen to Misa for a while and you be ready to jump out a window. Really all she is a airhead that falls in love with light for no reason but he's hot and kira.. and she serves nothing more then fanservice and a tool Light uses in his plans(because she has the eyes). Sorry to Misa fans but that is my opinion. But other then my problem with Women part in the story; I loved Death Note and highly say go WATCH IT ALL ALREADY!!
